Smackdown! SPOILERS: 7/15/11

Quote
Michael Cole, Booker T, and Josh Mathews came out for WWE Smackdown. Josh went to the ring rather than the announcers' table.

Smackdown opens with World champion Randy Orton being interviewed by Josh Mathews inside the ring. He discusses his match against Christian at Money in the Bank. Christian appears on the Titantron and says he will become champion again. Christian says that Orton's father was a joke and he's just as pathetic as Cowboy Bob Orton. Orton says what is pathetic is Christian holding the title for five days.

Ezekiel Jackson defeated Ted DiBiase to retain the Intercontinental Title. The end came when DiBiase went for Dream Street, which Zeke turned into the Torture Rack for the submission win.

Daniel Bryan vs. Cody Rhodes is up next.

Backstage, Ted DiBiase was looking disappointed. Cody entered and handed him the paper bag. He said he would give him one more chance, but if he loses again he will personally come to the ring and put the bag over his head.

Cody Rhodes defeated Daniel Bryan.

Teddy Long tells a referee to warn Mark Henry and Big Show that if there is any physicality between the two when they have a face to face later, their match at the PPV will be canceled.

Kane comes into Long's office and thanks him for the match against Randy Orton. Kane says he doesn't feel like a monster anymore and asks Long what is happening to him. Long tells Kane that he's scaring the hell out of him.

Wade came down to join the announce table and now I notice josh is there too, oops.

Jinder was shown in the back getting pissed at a camera man.

Backstage, someone has spraypainted Randy Orton's private bus with "ORTON SUX. TEDDY LONG = MORON. CHRISTIAN = UNCROWNED WORLD CHAMPION." Christian comes across it and acts shocked and says he can't imagine anyone would do this.

Sin Cara defeated Sheamus. Sheamus dominated in the beginning, but after Sin Cara's 20 millionth reversal, he reversed Celtic Cross into a roll up and won via pinfall. After the match, Barrett laid out Sheamus.

Christian was shown walking around the casino and claimed he found Orton's wallet. He took out $1,000 and bet it on No. 1 on a roulette table, because according to Orton's ID his birthday is April 1. "There is a joke there somewhere," says Christian. The ball landed on 20. "Looks like your lucks running out," Christian said.

Teddy made his way down for the face off. Big Show entered the ring. Henry stayed on the ramp and they did their smack talk. Henry tried to enter the ring, but Teddy got in the way and said to save it for Sunday.

Kelly Kelly beat Rosa Mendes. Loud pops for Kelly, as I guess no one expected to see her here.

Johnny Curtis promo backstage. He says soon, the cat will be out of the bag, but pulls an elephant out of it and yells at an assistant in the room. He tells the man that the elephant in the room isn't until next week and rips up the stuffed animal.

Justin Gabriel defeated Heath Slater. Slater missed a top rope moonsault. Gabriel hit his 450 splash and got the pinfall victory.

Kane defeated Randy Orton via count out. 30 seconds into the match, Christian walked onto the ramp to watch the match. Orton went for an RKO, Kane reversed it and clotheslined Orton out. Christian walked down the ramp got orton to chase him around the ring to give Kane a victory via count out.

Post match, Orton RKO'd Kane, Christian speared Orton, and beat on him. Christian went for a chair, but Orton fought back and took it from him. Christian ran off. Kane got a few chair shots while Christian watched from the ramp.

I guess this is where the cameras cut off. Cody and Ted come down to beat on Orton, but ended up getting RKO'd. Christian ran down and was RKO'd twice. Orton shook hands and signed a few autographs to end the show.

It makes absolutely no sense that Ted DiBiase rarely wins matches and is in a storyline where he can't secure a win yet he somehow was given an IC title shot? He lost but that's irrelevant, it doesn't make sense that he was given the opportunity.

The spray-painting of the private bus and the casino bit sound brilliant, I like feuds where the stars venture off to different locations.

I wonder what they are doing with Kane? Seems peculiar.

Kane is to old and stale for that now. The Unmasking of Kane at the time was great the initial direction they took his character in, Kane provied some great TV highlights, but they couldn't maintain any momentum past torturing Shane McMahon, setting fire to JR, tombstoning Linda.

And sadly once the mask is off it's off there is no going back, the persona has been destroyed. Before there was something dark about the man who was horribly scared underneath the mask, as it turns out thought he wasn't scarred physically, just mentally  ::)

Kane now needs to be fazed out  :(

Masked Kane was the best monster the WWE ever had and he was one of the biggest draws ever. Big Show/ Mark Henry/ Khali couldn't hold a torch to masked kane but the guy behind the mask didn't want to continue it and he has done a great job at putting over talent.
Still it seems weird going back on WWE and realising how much of a force Kane was back in the day. He just was a huge draw at a period of his career then a small draw throughout the rest of it. A complete contrast to the likes of Edge who just remained consistent throughout his career and ultimately becomes more memorable.

Being in a match with Kane does nothing for your career, losing to Kane doesn't enhance your career and neither does winning against Kane.

Kane is good for teaching guys the tricks of the trade, but the Kane character is done.

The guy was WWE champ last year and actually had a really good run. Obviously his best days are long behind him as you said but it's not like he's irrelevant, I think he's still a decent draw and a popular superstar. I thought he was just getting a courtesy run last year but it turns out that he really deserved it (although his feud with taker was a little too drawn out). It's just that the moment he starts gaining momentum, the bad writing in WWE hurts him and he ends up turning face again.

It makes absolutely no sense that Ted DiBiase rarely wins matches and is in a storyline where he can't secure a win yet he somehow was given an IC title shot? He lost but that's irrelevant, it doesn't make sense that he was given the opportunity.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure he pinned Zeke last week. Pretty much an automatic for a title shot, even if it was a "dirty" victory.

I'll give you Khali and Henry obviously, but Big Show was an excellent monster/big-man in various points of his career. He was huge in WCW, when he first came to WWE and for example when he teamed with Undertaker the first time. Like Kane it's when they turn him face and make him a comedy character that he starts to suck..

not to mention that both are obviously old now lol.

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

Kane will never and should never get the mask back. it's stupid, the reason he had it on was to cover up burns he had....unless he gets burned and grows a lot of hair again it's not happening.

Smackdown looks kind of weak to me to be honest. I think I'm ready to see something new fresh and exciting happen over there, and those same guys seem to just be staying in the same spot. Sin Cara of course is getting pushed and Jackson to some extent but i don't like either guy and reallly have no interest in any one they are pushing.

If it wasn't for Christian,Daniel Bryan and Gabriel i don't know if i would even watch SD. I Wish they would push
Tyson Kidd too.

Bollocks Kane has put guys over, perhaps nowadays not so much since he is not such a force but many guys (such as Batista when he started out) got over more beating Kane.

And Prax he beat Zeke in a TAG match which Rhodes was a part of (who has won far more matches lately) and aside from that he has jobbed to Bryan and Cara. If it was singles fair enough.

He still pinned the damn champion. Kayfabe wise that's almost always a precedent to at least be entitled to a title shot, if not get one. Besides, outside of kayfabe it doesn't even matter because he's actually been putting on some great matches on SD, especially with Bryan, so why not give him a bit of a spotlight?

I just think losing for so many weeks straight then winning in a tag team match doesn't warrant a midcard title match and its hardly giving him the spotlight when he is losing to pretty much everybody.

You really should watch his matches with Daniel Bryan. Kayfabe or not the guy deserved the match win or lose and even if it's the storyline it doesn't really matter if he loses so long as he puts in a good performance, and it's been night and day from when he was on RAW.

Yeah the matches with Bryan were brilliant but as you kinda said I meant this kayfabe wise. And it bothers me because it just adds to the proof that they really have no direction (or even seem to care) about the Intercontinental title anymore even though holding it use to be an announcement that you very likely would be a main eventer one day.

I completely disagree. Midcard titles are intended to be defended more and on TV, vs. world titles which are more prestigious and meant to be defended more on PPV. I agree that WWE has no direction for either midcard title, but if you go back to when those titles meant something, they'd often be defended against opponents who hadn't necessarily "earned" a title shot, kayfabe wise.
