In a press release issued by TNA Wrestling earlier today, it was announced that their Slammiversary PPV will be held at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, MI. The Palace is home to the Detroit Pistons and seats over 20,000 people.

I say not even close.

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

I actually agree, they have small shows week-in-week-out and to have a one off "bigger" crowd is really doubtful IMO. If I had anything to do with TNA I'd slowly, SLOWLY, increase crowd numbers before trying to ever become something as well known as the WWE, crowd attendance wise.

Anyone got any figures of the PPV attendances say over the last year?  Would be interesting to see for me at least as I have no clue whatsoever on the numbers. Maybe even a WWE one aswell to see in comparison.

Well judging on those numbers you provided you would have to say it would be a resounding no, although I don't know how reliable them figures are.

I decided to look up the attendances for the 2009 PPV's on Wikipedia which again i'm unsure on the reliability, but anyway:

Genesis: 2,700
Against All Odds: 1,100
Destination X: 1,100
Lockdown: 4,000 to 4,500 according to a google search

Here's the WWE's attendance figures in comparison again according to Wikipedia

Royal Rumble: 16,685
No Way Out: 12,500
WrestleMania: 72,744
Backlash: Arena holds between 11,000 and 14,000

Now obviously take out Wrestlemania and you can see that even they aren't 20,000 PPV attendances, although obviously depends on which arena's they use because of the capacity. Obviously the TNA PPV won't be able to make use of all the seating, but say they lost 5,000 seats they would still have to be doing Royal Rumble figures to sell out. I can see them being extremely lucky to get 10,000 and that would involve giving away possibly thousands of freebies. Maybe they have something in store, who knows, certainly not me :lol

I just left the live Y'town show, & while I didn't bother to count, they drew a decent crowd. (But we get a little sick of JB saying they'll be back there soon, & not showing bettwen '07 & now.)

First, I'm pretty sure they won't even sell upper deck tickets, they will most likely keep that level dark as it costs more for them to employ staff to work there and anyone who might sit there during the ppv will have gotten a free ticket because they couldn't sell out.  Secondly, Detroit is struggling a lot economically now and fans might be less inclined to use discretionary spending on a TNA PPV.  I'm not 100% sure a WWE PPV could sell out there right now.

This is TNA trying to make a splash.  They held Bound for Glory in Detroit in 2006 I believe and it did quite well.  If they are able to get a decent crowd it will get them a lot of good press and give them much needed experience if they were to expand to larger venues.  However, I think Detroit is not a good place to try this out right now.  Maybe at the NHL arena in Nashville or something because that is where they have established a fanbase.  I honestly don't know, but I can guarantee you there won't be more than 10,000 paid, I'd venture a guess it would be closer to 5000-7000 which would basically cover the lower level side that would be captured on TV.

20,000?

Hell no. I would say that they are going to get around the same attendance as they did at Lockdown, but IMO Philadelphia has a bigger wrestling market and at Lockdown they had so many former ROH and ECW wrestlers there. Not too mention the Dudley Boys who are from Philly and ECW originals.

Now for Detroit they have MCMG and Scott Steiner. But I still don't think that is going to help the attendance by that much.

I'd say they draw 2,000-3,000.
"This is my welcome!"
Shame on TNA for letting go one of the best female wrestlers in the world.

The only chance TNA has of drawing 20000 people was if they did an event in England. They managed to draw 8,000 to a damn house show! TNA are over in Britain, more then some people realize. Doubt they'd fill it over there in DE-Troit! But good like to them....they have another Foley match to watch......

It would have been better if they tired drawing in 20,000 people for Bound For Glory instead.
