Oh right I'm surprised by that to a degree, although I guess part of the problem is down to the Americans viewing it as shitting on their historical figure.

Dude, you idiots over there watched Battleship so much that Hollywood is now going to make more movies like that (mindless action movies with no semblance of a plot and ridiculous writing). So thanks for that. :P

Quote
I watched Prometheus a couple hours ago and felt it was pretty good. I'm surprised at the amount of criticism I am seeing on the internet and how much people seem to dislike it, literally went on imdb forums to just write some views and everyone is completely disregarding it. I'll admit it isn't as good as Alien, but I avoided going in with the mentality of comparing the two. I felt that was Ridley Scotts intention given the title and the themes behind the film, even if there is an obvious link. I just think that Alien was about 30 odd years ago now and it had its ideas at that time, this isn't from the late 70s early 80s much like the comparison of star wars and indiana jones with their new and old films - comparing the two periods whilst understandable will just leave with disappointment.

I felt the film had a purpose, its a speculative film based on the popular debate on why we are here, how that happened etc. The psychological horror on offer was mostly effective, perhaps disappointing for those that preferred the tension Alien offered but I think it can be equally effective. I didn't feel for the characters as much as I'd like, but I think that was down to the script more then the actors although I generally didn't like the cocky guy and his nerdy mate, something about the two that didn't really work and their characters were flawed anyway. Having said that though, Fassbender and Idris Elba pulled out good performances and I liked Noomi Rapace/Shaw come the end. Overall I would say its a good film, it will deliver the goods if you go in with an open mind. I would definitely say its worth about 7.5 - 8/10.

Spoiler:
As for the ending, people are calling for a sequel - maybe that will happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. Shaw was looking for the answers to life, answers she thought would be found on the setting for this film and didn't get, the metaphor for that is pretty obvious with real life, I'd rather they just left it on that, but I'm not against a sequel.

EDIT: Realised the sequels been announced ha

The movie was good in a lot of ways, it was just poorly written. You have a guy like Lindelof, who wants to leave a lot of things up for interpretation, and a guy like Scott, who wants to do the exact same thing, and then a rookie scripter like Spaihts and it just didn't work together. The movie left way too much up to the viewer to discern and I think that's why it suffered. Some movies can make that work, but they have to be intuitive, and I don't think Prometheus was intuitive.

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

The story delivered everything it needed to at this current point in the series. There might be some unanswered questions but given we have another film or two to go, they will probably be answered in those films. I just think people went in with massive expectations and came away feeling predictably disappointed. Besides the sometimes corny script (although not a consistent problem, only there occasionally) and some of the characters being pretty weak or generally pointless (having said that the relevant characters deliver), I would say the film generally hits all the right notes. I left the cinema thinking about the themes of the movie, I felt disturbed by some of the events, and I'm interested in where Scott will go from here.

Just finished watching In Time. Give it a 7 outta 10. I was really hyped for this one since i saw the premier trailer. I really like the sci-fi Robin Hood story and everyone in the movie was really great.

Watching Goon now for the 4th time. Love this movie so much. I give it a 8 out of 10.

I don't buy the sequels excuse. That's never a good excuse for a movie IMO. It's Ridley Scott, he never makes a movie so he can make a sequel. It takes him 35 years to do a sequel lol. I definitely agree with your last couple of sentences, about how the movie left me thinking (I thought about it for an entire week after I saw it), but I think a lot of it was by accident. It's not so much the philosophical questions, but plot points. For instance how did Idris Elba's character figure everything out, or how everyone on the ship outside of like the 5 main characters were just mindless drones. I just feel like there's a disconnect between the writing and directing. It doesn't help that Damon Lindelof wrote it. I don't know if you've seen Lost but if you have then you should understand lol

Falling Down (1993) A really controversial film where Michael Douglas plays a white collar who loses it on a hot day and walks around the city getting into violent encounters with members of the public. Good film 7/10.

Don't even get me started on Lost ;)

Spoiler:
I'm not so sure on the Idris Elba point, I seem to remember he saw everyone in the alien ship get massacred besides Shaw, who revealed what the alien was planning to do, but I might be wrong and I get your point - parts of the story were loose. The film does that to an extent and I must admit one of my gripes come to think of it was how inhumane all the characters seemed to be. None of them really acted how a human would in the circumstance: like entering an unknown location without a weapon, same with the ship not having a cannon, the fact none of them thought "everything we have encountered on this planet is bad, we should go home", even when they are on the ship and see Holloway completely changing they don't question why that happened. I was also a bit confused with why Shaw seemed to give birth to the squid looking thing rather then the alien ancestors, and why it grew to this insane size, even though it seemed to be the same thing from the first Alien movie. I thought the storm near the start would have some relevance given that they seem to trigger it when they enter the room with the head, but it didn't seem to happen. It has its flaws but I don't think those flaws get in the way of the film, which was an enjoyable enough movie.

Amazing Spider-Man: Awesome comic book movie, not the best and SM2 is still probably a little better but it's a great reboot evne if it basically retells the same plot. 8.5 out of 10.

Moonrise Kingdom: Simply fantastic. Anderson's best work to date and it goes well beyond his idiosyncrasies. Most original and inspiring film of the year so far. 10 out of 10.

I'm hesitant to see the new spider-man. 1 because i don't like Emma Stone. and 2 because i kind of find it hard to buy Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. He's like a model and Peter Parker is supposed to be Nerdy.

I've only heard good things about moonrisre kingdom so im looking forward to it but i never really liked any of the Wes Anderson movies i have seen (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Did kind of like The Darjeeling Limited though) so I'm kind of iffy on if it it will really hit with me.

There's 1 scene where Andrew Garfield looks sort of muscly but otherwise he plays the role perfectly. 1000000x better than Tobey Faguire.

Moonrise Kingdom is at the same time the most Wes Anderson-y movie he's done, but from my perspective it also felt like the most palpable for regular audiences. But I like his work so I could be wrong.

Im hyped for Spider-man. I think Garfield can be the perfect Peter Park/Spider-man. He is def a nerd and has that groan inducing wit that the Spider-man in the comics has.

I've heard Garfield is good as the new Spiderman, and I liked him a lot more then Maguire just from the trailers. Doubt I'll watch the film in the cinema given that I've read and now heard from Prax that this is like the other films; could never really get into any of them besides the first Spiderman movie.

Watched Quadrophenia the other day, really good film I thought and one that I think people can associate with when sort of a teenager moving into adulthood, recommend it if you enjoy gang films.

I don't see how you got the impression that you shouldn't watch Spider-Man from my review, it was awesome :P. I'm just being a little reserved because it clearly won't be as good as TDKR and Avengers was better and the culmination of six movies. But it's definitely something you should check out in theaters if you can, I had a great time especially with the big crowd.

Am I the only one pissed someone doesn't like Emma Stone? He should be sent to prison for those comments.

I find her extremely annoying and she seems like the same person in every movie i have seen her in yet people act like she's the princess of acting.

I also don't like Kevin Bacon maybe i should be banned for not being like everyone else. lol.
