WHAT? I thought it was one of the best movies of the year. Gave it a 9 out of and frankly I think it has a chance a few oscar nominations. Brilliant film, wonderfully crafted especially from technical points of view, but also in terms of subject matter. Easily in my top 5 this year.
It's not the type of movie I'd usually choose to watch (most of the time, I prefer something more action-orientated), so that probably contributed to my low opinion of it.

Spoiler:
Likely influenced by my preference for action, it probably also didn't help that I was expecting there to be someone behind the whole thing, and when the end came as it did, it just felt like a letdown.

You're obviously entitled to think so. No movie is for everyone and I can imagine this being a little polarizing considering the subject.

Spoiler:
As for the whole thing abotu someone being behind it, I would have found that to be incredibly cheesy. The point was to say that you don't need to have a shady guy in a tall building penthouse plotting to destroy the world in order to have our existence be at risk. I loved the whole silent villain idea.

the tension in the movie was awesome too.

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

Which is a very valid point too, unfortunately as I said it just failed to pull me in.

I Saw The Devil (2010)

Perhaps the most violent film I have ever seen. If the murderer/rapist is not bashing women on the head with a hammer then decapitating them or doing something sexual to them then he is putting his hands through his own shit in order to lose a tracking device.
Pretty grim this one, not for the faint of heart. Have not seen violence like this before but the way the film is shot is very good. The story is easy to get into and you want to know how it will end but I guess this film loses marks for being a bit too bloody.

The Help
Amazing film. May have been a bit sugary in parts, for my liking, given the subject matter....But their were great  performances from Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis.

Our idiot brother

My favorite movie of the year. just made me so happy watching it i can't recall enjoying a movie this much in a long time in terms of it just making me feel good. great actors, great characters, funny, great story. such a sleeper and i loved it.

The Change up

Another sleeper. i didn't expect much coming from this, a lot of comedies have let me down this year. but this one i really enjoyed it was more adult in terms of dirty things that go on that i expected. but i really liked it and thought it was really funny.

Horrible Bosses

Probably the funniest movie of the year so far that i have seen, the story is so ridiculous but the movie is just so damn funny and charlie day in it is awesome as always.

Bridesmaids

I enjoyed this one a lot. i went in it expecting great things though beings all you hear are great things about this movie. but i didn't love it. i just liked it. it sure had some funny parts and i did enjoy the romance stuff with the lead girl and the cop but it just wasn't as funny as i was expecting.

The Hangover 2

Usually people just blindly hate on part 2's and that annoys me. but this part 2 i think really does drop off. this movie was fun but wasn't that funny. like i enjoyed watching it and i like all the actors and characters and the while experiences i just didn't find it funny for the most part. maybe the first one was so funny because it was so unexpected and you didn't know how extreme these guys were gonna be and this one wasn't as funny because you know they are getting into some fucked up stuff.

I thought it was okay, definitely underrated by critics etc. You're right when you say that it was just a feel good movie.

I haven't seen it yet, but it sounded like this one was underrated too. I think people's expectations for comedy are way too high these days.

The end was lacking a little but it was so refreshing and different. Need to get this on Bluray when it comes out, loved it.

Second best comedy of the year after Bosses IMO. They made it the female version of 40-year-old virgin and IMO it worked. the big girl was hilarious and it was nice to see Kristin Wiig play a normal-ish person.

I actually liked it, but looking back on it it was incredibly by the numbers and a copy of the first that it just doesn't hold up as much. But I still enjoyed it.

I'm reviewing J. Edgar today or tomorrow, so I'll have a review of that.

Saw In Time a couple of weeks ago. Was okay but nothing special. 6 out of 10.

The Human Condition
Possibly the best war film I have seen, similar to All Quiet On The Western Front but just as good. Ten hours long split into three seperate films and six parts but really they all tie together. Strong message, part six is possibly one of the most moving parts of any film I have seen and really gets under the skin; helped by the stellar performance from Tatsuya Nakadai, one of the best I have seen. Incredibly versatile actor and one of my favourites. I hate using the "favourites" and "best" monikers, but I truly feel this was a stellar film all around conjuring various questions and thoughts about war. I finished this about a week ago now and yet I have been thinking back on the film each day; for a film to do that means quite a lot in my opinion.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Good western film, not brilliant but good nonetheless, I feel that The Searchers flowed better and had an overall better setting to it but this had James Stewart and Lee Van Cleef which gives it some bonus marks. I found the fat marshal an annoying character and when they called him a fat water elephant or something I couldn't help but picture his fat wobbly body getting pricked by a pin and water blowing out all over the place; I don't think John Ford intended for me to think that but tough luck fella, that's what I thought. I feel like the last half hour dragged a bit as well but it had a nice twist towards the end. I've seen a few John Wayne films now and he seems to do the exact same thing in every film and looks like he would be a sly fox from a Beatrix Potter book, his posture and build also reminds me of drawings I would make when I was about 6 years old.

Horrible Bosses- 7/10. Not a bad concept for a comedy and I enjoyed the ad lib and the way the guys keep talking so that there are things to pick up on if you gave it a repeat viewing. Jamie Foxx is probably the best part of the film.

Sherlock Holmes 2- Not bad but honestly preferred the first one as it was awesome without taking itself too seriously which this one did. Don't know how to rate it

Ture Grit
Did anyone else find it hard to understand what Jeff Bridges was saying most of the time? Hailee Steinfeld was excellent her performance was the only reason I didn't turn the DVD off.

I found the movie to be pretty dull to be honest, their was was no real suspense. It was also less violent than I thought it would be given the certificate

My mind is blown. True Grit was a great film. I can't remember what I gave it but it was surely very positive. Bridges is great in it and I love the way the story plays out. Instant classic as most films by the Coens are.

I'm so undecided on the Coen's its unreal.

For me Miller's Crossing, Fargo and Burn After Reading are BRILLIANT films. No Country for Old Men is really good, Big LeBowski I enjoyed a lot more the second time around but O Brother Where Art Tho, A Serious Man and Blood Simple I did not enjoy and considering I didn't enjoy the original True Grit I don't have much desire to watch that one plus my family said it was terrible and that Bridges was even more hammy than John Wayne.

Monsters (2010)
This film was pretty good, set in Mexico it tells the story of a photographer and a young woman who have to get back to America through the infected zone in Mexico filled with aliens.
It was an interesting film but I feel that it was advertised wrong, don't expect thrills and chases and action, it is more of a love story.

Forgot to post this one:

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Review | Better With Popcorn

Never saw the Swedish version or read the books, so I'm going into this one fresh, and I loved it. Rooney Mara owns the role, Daniel Craig is great bouncing off her, great supporting cast and everything from the writing to the visuals are solid. Only complaint is that the end draws out longer than Return of the King, it seems.

I've re-watched a few of my DVD's that I hadn't seen in a while.

Goodfellas- Classic gangster film, noticed how much stronger the first part is to the second part mind 9/10

L.A. Confidential- Awesome film noir and after playing L.A. Noire you notice a lot of similarities 9/10

The Deer Hunter- Masterpiece in every sense of the word 10/10
