I think fans who hadn't read the books might have loved it as it tied everything up for them in a big sentimental ribbon and ended a franchise they grew up with. I think people who read the books and were anticipating it for years were let down.
I was never a fan of the movies anyway, I wouldn't rave on about any of them.

And I am pretty surprised it has such a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes but I see a lot of stuff I disagree with on that site as well as on IMDB.

Ya I know plenty of people who read the books and were big fans who loved it. The only criticism I've really heard over the years is that a lot of them try to be carbon copies of the books.

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

To be honest the Lord of the Rings franchise kicks the shit out of the Harry Potter franchise anyday. Yet the Harry Potter books are more fun to read? (couldn't make it to the end of the first LOTR book.)

Did anyone else think Daniel Radcliffe seemed like John Lennon in the final movie as well?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

When this film was confirmed to be made back in 2009 I remember I wanted to o and see it, somehow thought the movie fell of my radar and I forgot all about it until I saw the movie in the two for £10 section in HMV.

I Didn't like the film at all, The storyline was incredibly weak and it seemed to drag on forever , was the acting was also weak throughout.

3/10

Faster

Pretty much exactly what you expect. The entire movie is The Rock walking into a room, staring someone down and pulling the trigger. All that was missing was his theme music. The plot gets pretty ridiculous at times but it's over the top and fun.

"Drive" Review: Is Ryan Gosling A Star Now? | Better With Popcorn

Great action flick that's going to launch the careers of director Nicolas Winder Refn and of course Ryan Gosling, I think a great arthouse-y movie, but I felt a little underwhelmed by parts of it, especially the action.

Ryan Gosling's career has already been launched. I have been hearing non-stop about how he is the next big thing for well over a year.

The Ballad of Cable Hogue- Chappers reviewed this Peckinpah Western a while back and called it a "joke of a movie" giving it a 4/10. I can see why, the film had touches of greatness but then slabs of silliness. Just weird. And wtf is with the ending? Had a charm and originality to it but was weird.
5/10

On another note how can someone direct the awesome film The Wild Bunch then direct that a year later?

He's a star no doubt, but the buzz is that this movie will launch him into a new level. The comparison I keep bringing up is Bob De Niro. I don't want to compare the two of course, but when De Niro did Taxi Driver, he was already an Academy Award winner, but not nearly one of Hollywood's biggest stars. All he had really done of note when he did Taxi Driver was Godfather and Mean Streets, and both were supporting roles. Taxi Driver was all about him and his character, he carried it and it launched him into superstardom.

I feel like the same thing could happen to Gosling, as all he's done so far is basically the Notebook, a few supporting roles, and a few arthouse-y movies. No pun intended, this is his first driving vehicle and it's going to get him a lot of big roles. The same way Taxi Driver likely helped get De Niro Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, etc.

Ryan Gosling's been around for years, I've seen him bummed by the internet a lot and I think he's a heart throb to a lot of women. This might give him some star power to your average cinema goer but tbh I would say you are underrating how known he is. Hell I know a lot of women that love the notebook, half nelson gets bummed to hell and back and that blue valentine film that came out last year was critically acclaimed.

Yeah I think you had the wrong choice of words, launched his career would imply he hasn't had his big break which is not true as The Notebook, Half Nelson, Lars and the real girl and Blue Valentine were huge! I mean he was nominated for an Oscar for Half Nelson so I would say his career has been launched. What you mean is it will open him up to being the lead star in a different genre (action/thriller.) He is also in the comedy Crazy stupid Love so it seems he is dipping into comedy as well.
Gosling is like DiCaprio though, a lot of his success comes from the fact that once he reached a high level in his career he became very picky with his scripts and is amazing at choosing the best ones.
I really like the guy from what I have seen (Half Nelson, Lars and real girl, murder by numbers.)

I never implied he wasn't known. The point is that even if he's been in some well-known movies he's never proven he can be the driving force of a film, the star power to carry a film that he's the main attraction of. Again, the very same way that everyone likely new Robert De Niro in 1975, but saw him in a completely different light after Taxi Driver in 1976.

He was the star power who carried 'Half Nelson' and 'Lars and the real girl' as well as being the male star power of 'The Notebook' and 'Blue Valentine'. This is just him being the star power of an action thriller.

Taxi Driver was De Niro's main breakthrough but Gosling has made it already. He got nominated for an Oscar for his starring role in Half Nelson. If you watch Half Nelson and Lars and the real girl you will realise he has been the main star power in a film before (and you should as they are both good films.)

So saying he has never proven he can be the starring power of a film is simply put wrong because he has proven it, more than once.
