Unstoppable
Such a good story and lots of action Fast cuts, zooms, crashes it's all in their. The films is also very tense (Literally chewing my finger nails) even if you knew what was going to happen.
9/10

rofl, 9 out of 10? It wasn't nearly good enough for a 9 out of 10. Good action movie but hardly anything I haven't seen before, and the pacing is pretty bad. Denzel and the rest of the cast save it from being completely mediocre. I think I reviewed it somewhere in here but I'd give it a 6... 7 at the most.

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

:ace

I get the whole argument that it's about enjoying a movie, but I think there's a limit to that frankly. I mean, the movie was good for an action movie, but it was incredibly derivative and predictable. I dunno. I liked it but there's no way that's a nine IMO.

So was not expecting this to be as bad as it was. The special effects were incredible, other than that is was awful. The actors were dire; the script was dreadful and had no substance. There is no proper beginning, no proper end and no explanation.  The last 5 minutes will have you thinking WTF!

Bourne Identity
I’ve had the Bourn films in my DVD collection for a long time now and have yet to once a single one, so I’ve set myself a goal of watching movies I already have before buying any more.

I thought this film had good pace and allot of first-class stunt work but the characters were unlikeable and the ending was an anticlimax.

I've seen a ton of films lately so I'll do a brief review of each of them:

The Bridge on the River Kwai
Really good film, I love the British accent used in this it can make for some fairly amusing moments, the characters are well developed and it does a terrific job of building up to what I thought was a really good climax. 8.5-9/10

Biutiful
Good film, Javier Bardem pulled out a powerful performance in this film which deserved an oscar nod at the very least. I personally thought he did a better job here then in No Country which won him an oscar, he showed more versatility in this role. His performance is definitely what stood out in this the most, brilliant performance in an otherwise good film. 7.5/10

Seven
I'm sure plenty of people on here have already seen this film, its a good film but honestly I think its incredibly overrated. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey stand out in this film with strong performances and the setting is immersive, very seedy stuff. Whilst the seven deadly sins stuff is tied in fairly well it leads to a disappointing final scene because I didn't really give a crap what happened at the end. Brad Pitt was fairly weak in this film tbh, I normally stand up for the guy when he gets slated. After watching this film I felt like it made for a good watch for an hour or 2 but that is all, its incredibly overrated. 6.5/10

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
First film I watched in my Sam Peckinpah boxset. A good film but i felt like it missed something, none of the lines stood out as being memorable or cool to me and there wasn't a character that struck out as being awesome or anything. Good but nothing great, would probably rate it about 6.5/10

The Ballad of Cable Hogue
Joke of a film, it was enjoyable but parts of it were diabolical and the ending is one of the worst I have seen. If this film took itself more seriously it could have been fairly decent, but in the end its old and cheesy and feels like a carry on film in places (not a good thing). 4/10

Ride the High Country
From this boxset this looked the least appealing, the front cover has two old guys and a woman that looks like a sexless farm girl. Whilst the film isn't anything amazing, I enjoyed it more then Pat Garrett and Cable Hogue. Its a fairly simple story but enjoyable. My favourite character was the twatty young bloke that followed the two older characters. I found it amusing how he constantly got made to look like an idiot by two pensioners. 7/10

The Wild Bunch
At this point I felt fairly disappointed with this boxset, until I watched The Wild Bunch. Quality film and instantly one of my favourites. It is clear where Red Dead Redemption was inspired for its story, a lot of elements seem familiar from this film (I only realised this reading a review on the internet after watching it). I really like the gritty sometimes dark moments of this film. Well paced and enjoyable action, this is a really good film and would be one of my top recommendations if you are looking to get into Westerns. 9.5/10

Sands of Iwo Jima
Watchable film but nothing special, fairly generic story. It's good but nothing special really. 6/10

The Guns of Navarone
A fine war film, well structured. I love Gregory Peck in this, i found his voice somewhat amusing but in other ways cool. Good pace and enjoyable action. I think the one thing this film misses is just something that gives it that little bit more. Its still a very good film though. 8/10.

All Quiet on the Western Front
I wouldn't be lying if I said that I would rate this as the best war film I've seen. It shows the terror of war and how distressful it can be, I actually had a nightmare one night on war because of this film. I just found it showed war in the way I would see it and the points it make are the points I've thought for some time on war. Really good film, even if its from the 1930's it felt way ahead of its time. It seemed like a brave move to make the focus of this film the Germans as well. 9.5/10

Dead Man
I've been waiting to see this film for a long time and finally got around to watching it last night. First thing to say I really liked the music in this film. Whilst it repeated itself a bit, Neil Youngs soundtrack really made this film a lot better for me. There are moments where this film can be pretty amusing, I don't think it would be in everyones taste but it worked for me. A lot of the side characters make this film enjoyable: John Hurt, Lance Henriksen, Alfred Molina, Michael Wincott, Billy Bob Thornton and Iggy Pop being the highlights for me. The story is fairly good but I felt that it could have been better and this was mainly down to the two main characters, William Blake (Johnny Depp) and Nobody (Gary Farmer). Johnny Depp did a good job with what he had to use. Considering he is the central character he doesn't feel like it for the most part and thats because he doesn't really say much after the first part of the film. I wouldn't say I found Blake a terrible character, his spiritual journey is fairly good for the most part, I just think it could have been better. Nobody on the other hand I just couldn't really concentrate on what he really said because the actor was pretty damn boring. Parts of the film felt like a drag. For the most part I enjoyed Dead Man, it isn't perfect but its a solid film and different. I think I just about prefer Ghost Dog over this but I would be up for giving this film another chance in the future to see if I change my mind. 8/10

Network (Sidney Lumet)
Sheesh I found this film boring, it makes a great statement about television no doubt but it is just boring, pretentious and the characters spend the whole time shouting and generally being annoying 4/10

12 Angry Men (Sidney Lumet)
A classic. Great film, keeps you engaged despite the whole thing taking place in one room 9/10

The Third Man (Orson Welles)
After a rewatch would give this a 10/10

Paths of Glory (Stanley Kubrick)
Amazing film and I really liked Kirk Douglas' character, the story, the music, everything really 8.5/10

Sanctum (2011) Ridiculous but did its job of entertaining and the kind of film you can kick back to and relax on a Friday night 6.5/10

Oh and chappers I agree Seven is overrated. I don't think you are meant to exactly love Brad Pitt's character as he is (SPOILER WARNINGS) meant to be wrath because of his temperament. The ending is more about realising why Kevin Spacey handed himself in halfway through the movie which is something that hasn't been done before. I think the film is loved because of how creepy it is too, how every space Spacey (get da pun LOL) enters turns into an unsafe space.

Spartacus (Kubrick) The first hour was awesome (funnily enough Kubrick didn't direct the first hour) then the film dragged (when Kubrick too over.) Nothing against Kubrick he directed one of my favourite films (Barry Lyndon) but this film did go downhill somewhat. Worth a watch though.
7/10

Mildred Pierce- A 1945 film noir where the protagonist is female, enjoyable film, interesting characters and one of the most loathsome characters in the history of cinema in the form of her daughter.
8/10

Night of the Hunter- Very odd film but very good. Shot in the style of an impressionistic silent German film and with a terrific and terrifying performance from Robert Mitchum. The child actors are awful mind but the cinematography, sound and acting of Mitchum is enough to warrant it a great film.
10/10

Half Nelson- Interesting and sad film about drugs, somewhat realistic too
7/10

Lars and the real girl- Coincidentally the second Ryan Gosling film I watched in a row, sad, unique and interesting film. Highly recommended. The less you know about this one going in the better.
8/10

Casablanca- A classic but not a film I like as much as some people
8/10

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre- A film in which you can see where red dead redemption drew some inspiration, hilarious, captivating, great story, great message
10/10- Just entered my top ten films ever

All Quiet on the Western Front- Followed chappers' advice and watched this, he was right its a great film and holds up far better than I expected from a 1930s film
8/10

The Big Sleep- Classic film noir, fun but not the best, Mildred Pierce would be a better option
7/10

Mulholland Drive- Weird, surreal and pretty typically Lynch. Interesting.
7/10

To avoid spamming I just put all the films I have watched in past month here as otherwise would be updating this daily as I watch a film a day at the moment.

Your Highness - decent comedy, Danny McBride is a genius, but it could have been a lot better. Love the role from Damien Lewis though, that guy's awesome.

Finding Nemo
Excellent film, the whale impression scenes had me in stitches.

The forgetful Fish Dory had me laughing out loud loads, “my names Nemo” NEMO!!!... that’s a nice name” classic.  ;D

I Love You Phillip Morris
I really enjoyed it. I loved that it was based on a true story and that the guy got away with so much. Jim Carrey did a good job of someone who was outrageous but not stereotypical, McGregor thought for me was more cliched The softly spoken, almost high pitched voice, the submissive manner bit to cliched.

In all thought the movie is hilarious at times, Whilst at the same time being very touching.

Das Boot
1980's war film focusing on a German U-Boat in World War II. Like All Quiet on the Western Front, this film challenges the view of war from the opposition, the German, although this is a German produced film. The characters are well developed and the sheer tensions through some of the fights is superb. Given that this film is now 30 years old, it still looks good today. It is perhaps slightly overrated, but I would definitely recommend giving this film a watch. 8.5/10

Bullet in the Head
John Woo action film focusing on three friends who leave Hong Kong to war torn Saigon where their friendships come under question. The start of this film comes across as a complete joke at first, it almost seemed deceptive to the front cover of the DVD, however this changed after 30 minutes. Lots of action, not as manic as Hard Boiled but it was still good action. Questions of friendship come into the film later on and in a lot of ways this is the most memorable part of the film with a couple exceptionally powerful scene towards the end. It felt completely out of place seeing as its quite easy to see this film like a Rambo/Die Hard film where you don't expect anything like it. The story is very similar to The Deer Hunter, but its an easier viewing and has more outrageous gun fights. Before writing this review I would have given it 7.5/10, but I think I'll give it 8/10

Rebel Without a Cause
Pretty well known classic, been wanting to see it for a while now. Film follows rebel Jim Stark (James Dean) and how he adapts to moving to a new town where he makes new friends and enemies. James Dean is the stand out along with his friend Plato (Sal Mineo). A good film which looks at the challenges of age, moving and friendship tied into an interesting story. I can't really think of much to say but I will say I enjoyed this film. 8/10

In the Mood for Love
Pretty wank film to be honest, good cinematography but its one of those films that isn't for blokes really and it pissed me off how reserved the two main characters were with each other. 5/10

Kung Fu Hustle
Absolutely hilarious, such a stupid film but has some amazing choreography, I'm surprised at how difficult it is to find this film on DVD, its a pretty well known film. Very funny though just for the sheer stupidity of it. 9/10

Rescue Dawn
Good war film, nothing outstanding or amazing but it was worth the watch and enjoyable. 7/10

Trading Places
Dan Aykroyd is hilarious in this as Louis Winthorpe III, some stuck up toff who has lost everything and is now a bum who can't afford anything in life. Other then Dan Aykroyds scenes this film is forgettable unless your a fan of Eddie Murphy, I don't mind him but he's always the same in everything. 6/10 but would be 10/10 if it was just Louis Winthorpe III for the whole thing lol.

The Shining
Pretty good horror film considering I hate the genre, perhaps the only film genre that I get absolutely nothing out of. Jack Nicholson is pretty good in this, he's humorous but at the same time his character has a really dark side to him which makes him kind of creepy. The wife is so inbred. 8.5/10

The Magnificent Seven
Pretty good western, similar to Seven Samurai which is far superior although it would have to be something special considering I probably rate that film as one of my top 5 favourites. Still a good western, I wouldn't say I loved it as it felt somewhat generic but it was enjoyable to watch 7/10

The Searchers
This film is often considered a real classic and one of the best films ever. Honestly I thought it was pretty damn good, I could understand if someone didn't like it but I thought this was well made. I could definitely see it growing on more viewings, which I will probably invest time into in the future. Amazing cinematography. 9/10

Fortress
I watched this as I'm certain I've seen the second one before. It took me ages to find out the name of it and found it out a while ago. I saw this one in a shop for a quid so I thought why not. If you are a fan of 80's action films and prison films then I reckon you would like this its pretty funny and has some good action in it. For an 80's - early 90's action film I would probably rate it an 8/10, looking forward to getting the second one at some point!

Dead Man's Shoes
Some random film I caught on TV, British film pretty funny with how pikey it is. Toby Kebbell is pretty good as this spastic kid and its kind of sad towards the end of the film. Pretty good though, wouldn't say its amazing though. 7/10

Million Dollar Baby
Really good film in my opinion looking at a sort of father/daughter relationship mainly with the boxing being thrown in as well to make for some good fight scenes. Hilary Swank definitely deserved an oscar for this. One thing that bugs me is the final boxing scene and how the other boxer didn't get disqualified for the cheap moves, I found a similar problem with Letters from Iwo Jima. This doesn't take away from the film or the message its set about trying to convey, much the same with Letters from Iwo Jima, but it is a clear inaccuracy. Otherwise a really good film. 8.5/10

I've seen Dead Man's Shoes it's actually pretty well known and famous...actually has quite a large cult following. It is the same director who did This is England.

Good length list of films, I hand my final piece of work ever at uni in today so want to catch up with films, so many I want to see.
