Couture to return at UFC 91 to face Brock Lesnar

UFC has announced they will be holding a conference call this afternoon at 3:00 PM EST to make a major announcement. The announcement is expected to be that Randy Couture has come to terms on a contract and will make his UFC return to fight Brock Lesnar. If so, he will be facing off against the former WWE champ on November 15 in Portland, Oregon.

If everything goes through, this will likely be the biggest fight of Brock Lesnar

Think I'll have a wank over these tomorrow.

I want Brock to win... Because there is speculation that whoever wins this fight will get to fight Fedor Emenlinko..... And I would like to see Brock get pounded by the best in the world.

Lesnar has 50 pounds on Couture, the benefit of having fought a match in the last year. Not to mention that he's a former amateur champion which will help him here, and of course the fact that he's 14 years younger than couture.

It's much closer than you're making it sound.

Match the list of people Coture has beaten to Leasner. Match the list of people Coture train to Leasner. Coture is a legend in the Octagon hes not light weight like Frank Mir and Mir beat Leasner.

...And then Lesnar beat Herrig. And how is Mir a lightweight? Lesnar only has 10 pounds on him and Mir is 11-3 in his career and a former champion...

So Couture is 16-8. That's pretty impressive. But you can't base it all on win/loss record. That would be like saying Wayne Gretzky can come back to hockey today and dominate the sport again. It's obviously a loose analogy analogy but it works. Gretzky is in his late forties, he hasn't played in a while and probably isn't in the best physical shape of his life, not to mention that the sport is rougher now then when he was scoring 200 points a season.

In the same manner, this analogy applies to this fight. Couture is in his mid forties, probably isn't in the same shape he was when he was in his prime, and Lesnar has a nasty weight advantage on him.

That's not to say the match is gonna go in Lesnar's direction for sure, but it'll certainly be tighter than you're making it sound. Lesnar improved greatly after his first fight and there's no indication that he won't continue to improve here.

First off; Lightweight as in Push Over.

Second your compairing a team sport witht he UFC and a guy who has long been out of his sport over a guy who has not had a match in a year, BUT has still kept his gym open where he train's people.
And Coture was champion for a reason when he left. He has the experience which when in the ring really does mean it all, he knows all the opening to look for unlike Leasner who is still trying to apply holds right. Herring wasn't that big of a win, I don';t think he looked great at all he was very nervous and it wasn't even that big of a fight. And the win before that the guy was basically the jobber of MMA.

Oh and im not baseing this all off his record. Im baseing it off on pure skill.

I really think that the UFC are making a mistake with this match up, Brock Lesnar is still very, very green to the sport and lets be honest Heath Herring is no Randy Couture is he? I really thin kthat he should have waited another 1 or 2 fights and make abit more of a go towards a push rather then being pulled into the mainevent.....mistake is all I'm going to say.

Well i was listening to a local fight show on the radio and they explained it pretty clearly:

- Noguira and Mir will fight for the interim title in December.
- Couture and Lesnar will fight for the actual heavyweight title.

The winners will unify the titles to finally have an undisputed champion. I guess Couture only wanted to come back for a couple of fights, including the one against that other dude (i can't remember his name), but it's supposed to be a dream match, and either negotiations for that guy to come to UFC are going slow or White didn't want to give it away before unifying the titles.

The thing is, this isn't just Couture vs. Lesnar, this match has BIG ramifications, and I don't think White would put him in this match if he didn't think he stood a chance. Lesnar stood a chance against Mir, he just left himself open one small time and Mir, a truly underrated fighter IMO, took advantage.

The first match made Lesnar look weak but I don't think he is. This will be a good fight.

But thats the thing if Mir can find a small opening like that so will Coture. Plsu White is a idiot when it comes to promoting lately and has absoutly destroyed Chuck Liddell's career. Leasner has still done nothing to warrent a title shot. White is skiping over a ton of people who deserve to be in his place before him. The whole situation is retarted and im going to laugh when White commits sucide after Leasner lose's again.

He done the job at hand to get the win, but was lucky to catch Randy like that, I think that at 45 Randy has served the MMA community pretty well.....but now he just needs to hang up the gloves and train some of he's students at the gym.
