Matt Holiday Traded To The Athelteics
« on: 11 November 2008, 08:42:25 PM »
The Oakland A's are close to acquiring left fielder Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies, several publications reported on their Web sites on Monday.
A baseball source confirmed to MLB.com that the Holliday negotiations are ongoing and said that the "talks are fluid."

In exchange for Holliday, a National League MVP candidate on the 2007 pennant-winning Rockies, the A's will trade closer Huston Street, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and left-handed pitcher Greg Smith, according to Sportsline.com.

Gonzalez and Smith were obtained from Arizona last offseason in the deal that sent Dan Haren to the Diamondbacks.

Holliday is slated to earn $13.5 million this season and can become a free agent after the 2009 World Series. Prior to the start of this past season, the Rockies offered Holliday an $85 million deal over five years that included four years guaranteed at $65 million.

But Holliday, who is a client of agent Scott Boras, turned down the offer.

Holliday was in Dana Point, Calif., last week at the General Managers Meetings to visit with Boras, whose current free-agent clients include Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, Jason Varitek and Oliver Perez.

ESPN.com reported that A's assistant general manager David Forst declined to elaborate on the deal.

"It's still an ongoing discussion,'' he said.

I think this is big news and big for the A's they are desperete and thats why they made this trade with Huston Street. Street who is a good pichter was traded for Matt a good offense player. This is a good trade for the A's because they have no offense and they needed some offense. So lets wwait and see what happens and who benedfits from this trade.
